MOVE Week is an annual Europe-wide event held in May and has been an integral part of the NowWeMOVE campaign since 2012. With 1.8 million participants in 2015, MOVE Week has become the biggest annual week in Europe promoting the benefits of regular participation in sport and physical activity. MOVE Week is an open platform for anyone with an interest in getting people active to showcase their activity or event to their community. That person, group or organisation is a MOVE Agent.
During MOVE Week, thousands of events take place simultaneously across Europe in a week-long festival of sport and physical activity. They can include open door or “try-it” events at local clubs, walking events, fun runs, bike tours, street sport events, school sports events, company activities, activities organised for hard-to-reach groups – the possibilities are only limited to our imaginations! The size of the event can also vary – from small events organised by local groups, to bigger community events, to large-scale city events. MOVE Week is about having fun and finding your MOVE. As long as the event gets people active then it is eligible to be part of MOVE Week.
MOVE Week and the NowWeMOVE campaign are being coordinated centrally by the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA) in collaboration with the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF). MOVE Week is financially supported by the European Union.
MOVE Week’s success is the result of the NowWeMOVE campaign’s bottom-up, cross-sector approach involving a collaborative effort between its coordinating organisations, their partners and supporting organisations, one central MOVE Week Coordinator, National Coordinators in most European countries, and thousands of MOVE Agents.
ISCA, ECF, their partners and coordinators provide the platform, tools and instructions to inspire MOVE Agents to organise events. It is the MOVE Agent’s job to choose their event type and location, register it on the portal at MOVEWeek.eu, gather the team they need to implement it, promote it in their communities and oversee it when it unfolds on the day(s). A MOVE Agent can be a grassroots sport organisation, club, school, university, voluntary group, company, municipality/city or individual. It is a voluntary position, but ISCA and the National Coordinators in each country can give them advice on how to seek funding and support for their events. Find all the toolkits, posters, flyers, banners and other promotional materials you need to plan, promote and stage your event at MOVEWeek.eu.
